St. Augustine-The Dredge-05-23-2012

All photos taken at St. Augustine Beach on May the 23rd. The City of St. Augustine Beach is doing a "beach renourishment "project. While most feel this is a waste of money, it has created a very nice point-like break. The project is administered through the Army Corps of Engineers with funding consisting mostly of federal funds and some local Tourist Development Tax and state revenues. In general, the project involves dredging sands captured around the inlet that otherwise would have been carried by ocean currents to the south and mechanically placing this sand on beaches south of the inlet. The problem is it will only take a couple of good North Easters or a hurricane to wipe it all away. Bye bye tax dollars. Check out a few photos at the end of the Gallery.
